David L. Brown is the AOA Vice President for Government Affairs after serving as Executive Director of America Outdoors Association for twenty-five years. David has served as a representative of various active travel and outfitter organizations since 1981. He was on the Governor’s Task Force for Tort Reform and Liability Insurance (TN), on the board of directors of the American Recreation Coalition, the Curriculum Advisory Board for the College of Natural Resources at Virginia Tech University, the Customer Advisory Board for Visit Salt Lake and was Chairman of the Mayor’s Waterfront Task Force in Knoxville, TN. During the early 1980’s, David directed the efforts to preserve recreation opportunities on the Ocoee and Gauley Rivers. Since the1980’s he has testified before Congress over 20 times on recreation policy, fees, concessions management and public land issues. He is a licensed property and casualty insurance producer in the state of Tennessee. As Executive Director of America Outdoors Association he produced the annual conference, conducted government affairs programming, developed member benefits, and risk management programs for members. David has kayaked, canoed, hiked, and traveled by horse through many of America’s National Parks, Forests and public lands. A Navy veteran, he served as the boat captain of a four-person gun boat in the Mekong Delta in 1969 and 1970 for which he was awarded the Navy Commendation Medal.
