Welcome to the 2016 National Park Service Underground Railroad Conference Network to Freedom (NTF) program registration site. The Association for the Study of African American Life and History, Inc. (ASALH) is proud to partner with the National Park Service Network to Freedom to convene this conference. At this site you may register and submit payment (via credit card) for the Conference registration fees.  If you have never used our site to purchase or to register for an event, a login registration must be created to access the registration section. If you are a returning user, you may use your existing login. After registering you will be able to view your registration and receive automated confirmation of your registration. We look forward to seeing you on Hilton Head Island!

Early Full Registration fee received by May 1 - $225 and Regular Full Registration fee received after June 1 - $275; All other registration and session fees are listed on this site.
Please follow the prompts to submit your registration. There is no difference between member and non-member categories below. Conference fees are the same for all attendees.

Tear down: Wednesday, 5:30; Description: Each exhibitor/vendor will have 1(one) 6-foot skirted table and a chair. Price includes 1 (one) ticket for the following events: Monday reception, Tuesday Breakfast, Tuesday Lunch, Wednesday Breakfast, and Wednesday Lunch.

Description: Kick off the 2016 National Underground Railroad Conference at the Conference's Opening Reception. Mingle with other attendees during a night of socializing, food, and drink.
 
 Tuesday Banquet   $60   (included with full conference registrations)
Date/Time: Tuesday, June 14 (6:30 pm - 8:30 pm)  Location: Ocean Front Deck
Description: Conference banquet will include a buffet dinner accompanied by musical performances by Voices of El Shaddai and by Marlena Smalls.
Fantastic tours are planned and must be purchased separately by all participants to attend.
 
TOUR 1 - Monday Tour - 8:00 a.m. - 5:00 p.m.
The Roots of Reconstruction and the Development of Community - $70 (lunch included)
Date and Time:  Monday, June 13 (8:00 am-5:00pm)  Location:  Meet in Hotel Lobby, Check-in begins at 7:30
Description: Tour the Low Country of South Carolina with stops at Mitchelville and Fort Howell on Hilton Head Island (Network to Freedom sites) and Penn Center on St Helena Island (National Historic Landmark), with a driving tour of Robert Smalls sites in Beaufort, South Carolina.
Set foot on the first self-governing town of formerly enslaved people in this country. Mitchelville was established in 1862 as a population center of the Port Royal Experiment. Fort Howell was created to protect Mitchelville from possible confederate raids in 1864. Travel to Penn Center, established in 1862 as the first school in the South for people newly freed from slavery and enjoy a traditional low country boil for lunch.  Learn how the partnership between formerly enslaved African Americans and northern missionaries established a safe haven for the transition from slavery to freedom.  Discover the educational evolution of the Penn Center and its 20th century roll as an incubator for the Civil Rights movement.
 
TOUR 2 - Thursday Tour - 8:00 a.m. - 5:00 p.m.
Tour 2- Land of Escapes, Freedom and Community: Savannah, Georgia - $40 (lunch on own)
Date and Time: Thursday, June 16 (8:00 am-5:00 pm)  Location: Meet in Hotel Lobby, Check-in begins at 7:30
Description: Journey to Savannah to visit Fort Pulaski National Monument (NPS and NTF site), historic First African Baptist Church, and the Ralph Mark Gilbert Civil Rights Museum.
Discover Fort Pulaski, which became a destination site for freedom seekers in 1862 when Union General Hunter issued an unauthorized General Order #7 which allowed emancipation of slaves in coastal Georgia.  Learn about the exploits of March Haynes who became involved in reconnaissance for the Union Army, conducting numerous missions into the heart of Savannah to uncover Confederate troop movements and area camp while also helping enslaved people escape to Fort Pulaski. Visit First African Baptist Church, organized and active since 1773, where Haynes was a member and later became a deacon. As the largest gathering place for blacks during segregation, the building was the site of many events and the courageous work needed during the Civil Rights Movement. Have lunch on your own at the adjacent City Market district (http://www.savannahcitymarket.com/ ) before following the freedom story to the Ralph Mark Gilbert Civil Rights Museum.

If you only plan to purchase Tours, Opening Reception, and/or Tuesday Banquet tickets, you must select the 'A la Carte Tours, Opening Reception, and Banquet Tickets' registration option prior to being able to purchase the tickets for these conference options.
Tours and ala carte meal options will be available on the Session Events selection page as you proceed through the registration and checkout process. You may increase your event option quantity in the shopping cart if you would like to purchase multiple tickets.

The Exhibitor/Vendor area will be open Monday, June 13, 2016 through Wednesday, June 15, 2016. Space is limited.

Refund Policy:
Registration cancellation requests must be submitted in writing and received by ASALH no later than June 6, 2016 to receive a full registration refund. Cancellations will not be accepted via telephone. No refunds will be granted for cancellations received by ASALH after 5 p.m. on June 6, 2016.
To ensure proper processing, cancellations must be e-mailed to info@asalh.net with the subject line "UGRR Registration Cancellation". For eligible cancellation requests, ASALH will issue refund checks within 90 days following the close of the conference.
