Marist College invites applications for a tenure-track position in communication with a specialization in sports broadcasting at the rank of assistant professor to begin in the fall of 2012. Candidates without a terminal degree may be considered at the lecturer or professional lecturer level. Candidates must be able to teach applied courses in sports broadcasting and sports reporting. Candidates will also teach other communication and sports communication courses, based on the candidate’s expertise. Marist has one of the nation's largest and oldest concentrations in sports communication, currently enrolling approximately 150 students. Marist also recently launched the Marist College Center for Sports Communication, a hub of research, curricular, and service activity in the field. Prospective hires will be involved in future growth of the curriculum and the Center.
Duties and responsibilities : Teach applied courses in sports broadcasting and sports reporting. Teach additional courses in sports communication and general communication. Conduct research/professional activity as appropriate and perform service to the department, including advising students. Candidates will have opportunities to work with the Marist College Center for Sports Communication, helping with research initiatives, creating new courses in sports communication, and hosting events.
Qualifications: Candidates for the tenure track position must have a Ph.D. in communication or relevant field. Candidates for the lecturer appointment must have a relevant master’s degree, while professional lecturer candidates would have an appropriate degree and an extensive work history in the field. All candidates should have experience in sports broadcasting and reporting and be able to lead students in these fields. Ideal candidates will have college teaching experience.
