Course Description
TCC is proud to present a brand-new addition to our popular Hospice 101 seminar, designed specifically for the Hospice Manager. Hospice 201 will enhance the skills of the hospice manager in their role of leading and supervising the day-to-day hospice operations in ways that ensure compliance for quality hospice care delivery. During this seminar, participants will take a deep dive into all aspects of their jobs like hospice eligibility documentation, management of the IDT, coordination of hospice services and how to prepare for certification surveys. The MCR CoPs will serve as the foundation for this interactive session and as a bonus, each participant will receive the Hospice 201 tool kit, complete with handouts, practical resource guides and tip sheets.

Speakers
Marisette Hasan, RN, BSN, BSN, President/CEO, The Carolinas Center,
began her role with TCC in 2014, following a career in healthcare and hospice that began as an oncology nurse in 1981. She soon discovered a love for caring for her patients in a holistic manner throughout the continuum of their illness. Her experience ranges from hospital care to hospice and palliative care. Her hospice experience began in 1985 and she has served in various roles, from nurse to administrator, with hospital programs and independent community programs. In 2015 she became an ELNEC-Core trainer. Marisette works hand in hand with hospice and palliative care providers, helping them maintain relevance in a changing environment and engage in collaborative partnerships to advance hospice and palliative care throughout the Carolinas.

Alicia Sterritt, MSW, Director of Quality & Compliance, The Carolinas Center, began her role with TCC in 2017.  She has 17 years of hospice experience include a range of responsibilities: medical social worker, quality and compliance director, and inpatient unit planning and project coordinator. In her position with a hospice provider for both Carolinas, she was attentive to both NC and SC state hospice regulations, as well as federal regulations and QAPI. In 2014-15, she assisted in leading Hospice of the Carolina Foothills in attaining accreditation by The Joint Commission. TCC recognized Alicia’s talented and dedicated work with the first Tamra West Leadership Award in 2014. Alicia holds a bachelor’s degree in social work from Winthrop University and a master’s in social work from The University of SC in Columbia.

Sylvia Singleton, RN, Corporate Compliance Officer, Caris Healthcare, has 22 years of experience as a Registered Nurse along with 15 years in Medicare working for a Medicare Contractor which included communicating directly with the Federal Government - CMS (Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services). Her experience includes serving as a HCPCS (Healthcare Common Procedure Coding System) Coordinator, reviewing medical equipment and assigning HCPCS codes for durable medical equipment (DME) for the Medicare Program. Sylvia worked as a Medical Affairs Coordinator for a Medical Director developing Local Coverage Determinations (LCDs) used in 16 states and as a Medical Review Manager. She also has initiated contractor review of Medicare claims for Part A and Part B and Home Health and Hospice.

Continuing Education Credits
Upon successful completion of this educational activity, 6.00 contact hours are available for nurses and other disciplines. Certificates of completion will be provided at the end of the program.

The Carolinas Center for Hospice and End of Life Care is an approved provider of continuing nursing education by the North Carolina Nurses Association, an accredited approver by the American Nurses Credentialing Center’s Commission on Accreditation.

Cancellation Policy
Cancellations for this workshop must be received in writing at The Carolinas Center by 5:00pm on August 1, 2019. Cancellations received by that date will receive a refund, less $35 for administrative fee. No refunds will be given for cancellations received after August 1, 2019; however substitutions may be made.
