With an understanding of the concepts and basic terms utilized in project management as well as the roles and responsibilities of project managers, HIM professionals will be able to break down the work into phases and utilize appropriate tools in each project management phase, including familiar tools of schedules, list and plans, and a project specific project charter.
HIM professionals already have many of the skills needed for effective project management, and can utilize those skills to manage projects of various sizes and types.
Project management is useful in personal situations as well as professional work settings.

This webinar has been approved for continuing education units (CEUs) for use in fulfilling the continuation education requirements AHIMA, AAPC, BRN, and ACDIS for CDI-related events not to exceed ten units from any single event. CEUs are based on contact hours. 30 minutes of attendance at an educational program equals .5 CEU. Karyn Mikel, MA, RHIA, PMP is a graduate of the College of St. Scholastica, and a seasoned HIM professional, having worked in various roles including Project Manager, Information Services Team Lead and Business Analyst, HIM Director, HIM Supervisor, and community college instructor. She has been an active volunteer in her state association (MNHIMA) as well as in her community, including various committee and leadership roles. She enjoys bringing project management skills and processes to work with teams to accomplish goals.
