Program Details
On November 17, 2017, the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) is expecting that health care providers comply and implement a Final Rule, published September 8, 2016, establishing new emergency preparedness requirements for Medicare and Medicaid participating providers and suppliers. These new regulations expand the CMS Conditions of Participation (CoP) and apply to all 17 provider and supplier types, with each provider having its own set of Emergency Preparedness regulations.

Within these new regulations are provisions specific to health information management (HIM), including:

Continuity of operations and access to medical and other records

Health Information Risk Assessment and Threat Identification, such as:

- Cyber-security

- mHealth (mobile health)

- Bring your own device (BYOD) practices

- Employee negligence

The core requirements of the CMS Emergency Preparedness Final Rule will be covered, with an in-depth analysis of the specific requirements that relate to health information and the presentation will explore real operational issues in achieving CMS compliance as it applies to HIM. The presenters will also discuss how existing HIPAA regulations relate to the new CMS rule and explore how to conduct a risk assessment to identify potential threats that should be addressed in an IT Disaster Recovery Plan (DRP). Upon completion of this webinar, participants will understand:

1. The new CMS Emergency Preparedness Final Rule (Rule)

2. CMS requirements for medical documentation and access to patient records

3. How to conduct a sample health information risk assessment to identify potential risks.

Who Should Attend

Health Information Management Directors, Supervisors and Consultants; Privacy, Security and Compliance Officers and Consultants; and those individuals who work in all 17 provider and supplier types.
