Program Description
The January 1, 2021 evaluation and management (E/M) guideline modifications are the biggest changes to E/M coding in many years. Join us as we review the updates with focused education on the medical decision-making table and cover the new time elements for leveling E/M services for new and established patients.

During this session, we will go over comparative examples of current versus new guidelines, walk through exercises in applying E/M levels and participate in interactive application of the new guidelines to case scenarios. We will also explore key documentation elements to look for to assign proper levels under the new guidelines.

Attendees will learn:

  • Foundational understanding of changes to the guidelines
  • How to apply medical decision making in E/M leveling under the new rules
  • Direction on addressing leveling related to time elements
  • Application of new guidelines, experienced through case examples for both new and established patients

Rose has been in the industry for over 17 years and is an experienced professional in building and mentoring teams and overseeing and leading professional fee audits and education for both physician and coder audiences. She has worked as a professional coding and auditing manager and supervisor for healthcare consulting vendors focusing on training and development, report writing, coding, and coding and compliance reviews. Rose has also acted as an adjunct instructor teaching an allied health courses and a certified coding boot camp. She is an active member and past president of the AAPC, and an Ambassador of Education with AHIMA.
