“PRIDE Model of Practice” Implementation Training

A Competency-Based Model of Practice to Develop and Support

Resource (Foster and Adoptive) Parents

Baltimore, MD

Monday - Thursday, July 15 - 18, 2013, 9:00 AM – 4:30 PM

Friday, July 19, 2013, 9:00 AM – 1:00 PM

Background and Content

Parent Resources for Information, Development, and Education (PRIDE) is a 14 step model of practice to develop and support foster and adoptive (resource) families. Developed by a collaboration of public and private agencies and organizations across the country, PRIDE is implemented by over 30 jurisdictions in the U.S. and over a dozen other countries. The PRIDE program is designed to strengthen the quality of family foster care and adoption services by providing a standardized, consistent, structured framework for the competency-based recruitment, preparation, assessment, and selection of foster and adoptive parents, and for foster parent in-service training and ongoing professional development. The PRIDE Model of Practice is built around five core competency categories: protecting and nurturing children; meeting children’s developmental needs and addressing their delays; supporting relationships with birth families; connecting children to safe, nurturing relationships intended to last a lifetime (permanency); and working as a member of a professional team.
