Background and Content
Parent Resources for Information, Development, and Education (PRIDE) is a 14 step model of practice to develop and support foster and adoptive (resource) families as partners in child protection. Developed by a national collaboration of public and private agencies and organizations, the PRIDE Model of Practice isused in over 30 jurisdictions in the U.S. and over 20 other countries. The PRIDE Model of Practice aims to strengthen the quality of family foster care and adoption services by providing a standardized, consistent, structured framework for the competency-based recruitment, assessment, preparation, and selection of foster and adoptive or resource parents, and for foster parent in-service training and ongoing professional development. The PRIDE Model of Practice is built around five core competency categories: protecting and nurturing children; meeting children’s developmental needs and addressing their delays; supporting relationships with birth families; connecting children to safe, nurturing relationships intended to last a lifetime (permanency); and working as a member of a professional team.
Participants
This training opportunity is designed for anyone responsible for the recruitment, assessment, pre-service training, and selection of resource or foster and adoptive parents, and for foster parent retention. Agency-based staff, college trainers, and experienced foster and adoptive parents who train are warmly welcomed, as are all agency staff responsible for the assessment and selection of resource (foster and adoptive) parents who have an essential role as partners in child protection.

PLEASE NOTE: (1) Participants who already have the PRIDE Model of Practice pre-service training material package (2009 edition) can select Registration Fee Only and must bring theTrainer’s Guide and PRIDE Book to the training. Participants who need all the above PRIDE Model of Practice training material can select Registration and Material, and these will be provided onsite. (2) PRIDE Model of Practice materials are copyrighted. Participants cannot photocopy or duplicate materials unless their agency has a license to make multiple copies. Up to 24 Continuing Education Units (CEUs) are available for the training, provided through the NASW – Washington State Chapter. Cost for CEUs: CWLA Members $25; Non-Members $35
