IMPLEMENTATION TRAINING

LOS ANGELES, CA

MONDAY, AUGUST 7 - FRIDAY, AUGUST 11, 2017

9:00 AM - 4:30 PM

Is the PRIDE Model of Practice for your agency?  CWLA and FosterParentCollege.com invite you to participate in an implementation training program that addresses the challenge of finding and keeping competent and committed resource parents.  We will demonstrate how to integrate the competencies resource parents must have with your preparation and assessment/approval process.  This approach helps ensure continuity between what prospective resource parents are recruited, prepared, and approved to do and expectations after children join their families.  Most importantly, it shows how to find and keep resource parents who have a commitment, not consumer approach to your program.

What is the New Generation?  This is a “model of practice” to help ensure that staff who interact with resource parents through recruitment, orientation/information meetings, preservice training, home studies/assessments, approval, matching, and ongoing teamwork reinforce your agency’s mission, program objectives, values, and best practice skills.  The New Generation integrates the benefits of in-person group training, family assessment (home study/approval), and online self-paced training while meeting the needs of diverse families and agency resources. It features innovative, cost-effective strategies with proven effective techniques, interactive vignettes, and is adaptable for both public and private agencies. New Generation strengthens the family assessment (home study/approval) process with a focus on potential disruption indicators.  It decreases the number of in-person training sessions to save travel and time costs, while increasing training quality and standardization that also addresses issues unique to kinship caregivers. Teamwork in child protection and trauma-informed practice and parenting is integral. The New Generation continues to emphasize evidence-informed competency categories of: (a) protecting and nurturing children; (b) meeting children’s developmental needs and addressing developmental delays; (c) supporting children’s relationships with birth families; (d) connecting children to relationships that are safe, nurturing, and enduring (permanency); and (e) working as a member of a professional team.  For additional information, please visit New Generation PRIDE Model of Practice.

Who are the facilitators and participants?  A team with expertise in PRIDE Model of Practice development and implementation will facilitate.  Participants should be agency staff who can return to their agencies and share all the Model of Practice components including: resource parent recruiting, assessing (home study), selecting/approval,  preservice training, matching, and ongoing teamwork with the aim of minimizing disruptions, and increasing retention and permanency outcomes.  Please note: Agencies should purchase a license before sending staff to the training; however, agencies considering purchasing the PRIDE Model of Practice license who wish to participate in the training to help make the decision should contact Donna Petras at dpetras@cwla.org to discuss, or to arrange for materials to use during the training.
