Event Description

This 2 day course reviews the basic skills needed to prepare, offer and accept shipments of hazardous materials by ground, air and water.  As an alternative to taking HMT-115, HMT-215 and HMT-315, HMT-155 reduces training costs, travel expenses and time away from the office.  Instruction will focus on non-bulk packages.

Meets applicable requirements for recurrent training.

Note:
  • "HMR" means U.S. DOT's 49 CFR "Hazardous Materials Regulations"
  • "DGR" means IATA's "Dangerous Goods Regulations"
  • "IMDG Code" means IMO's "International Maritime Dangerous Goods Code"
Prerequisite:

There are no prerequisites for this course, however recurrent training is not intended to be initial training and we strongly encourage students to complete an appropriate initial training course at least once prior to enrolling in this recurrent training course.

The training methodology used in this course assumes the student has prior knowledge and is not designed to be your initial exposure to the information.

Approriate prior training would include the HMT-150 or equivalents.

Materials Provided:
  • A Copy of the HMR
  • A Course Textbook
  • Various handouts including a compliance guide/checklist
A limited number of "loaner" DGRs and IMDG Codes can be provided by DGAC for your use during the course.  
Class hours:

8:00 AM - 5:00 PM Daily

(Please arrive and sign-in between 7:30 - 8:00 AM on the first day.)

  • DOT Authorization to Use the International Standards for Air and Water Shipments within the United States

  • Organization and Structure of the HMR, DGR and IMDG Code

  • Classification of Hazardous Materials in Each Code

  • Hazard Classes/Divisions

  • Packing Groups

  • UN/NA/ID numbers as appropriate

  • Precedence of Hazards for Multiple-Class Materials

  • Proper Shipping Name Selection

  • Technical Names

  • Hazardous Substances

  • Marine Pollutants

  • Materials Poisonous by Inhalation (TIH Materials)

  • Use of the Various "Tables" in each Code 

  • 49 CFR Hazardous Materials Table

  • IATA DGR List of Dangerous Goods

  • IMDG Code Index and Dangerous Goods List

  • Distinction Between Cargo Aircraft Only and Passenger Aircraft Shipments

  • Special Provisions

  • Packaging Selection in Each Code

  • Marking and Labeling in Each Code

  • Shipping Paper Requirements (Unique documents such as the Air Waybill and Shipper's Declaration for Dangerous Goods, the IMO Dangerous Good Declaration; Descriptions, Certifications and Signature) in Each Code
