In this webinar session, planned by the Donor Development Committee, speakers will discuss handling confidential information by focusing on electronic medical record access and navigating the HIPAA Rule.
The session will open with a discussion about the challenges surrounding electronic medical record access and address the fact that not one size fits all for every organization and hospital and flexibility matters. During this portion of the presentation, a representative from Lifebanc will share how her organization was able to gain access at 30 hospitals and what the transition has meant for the hospitals and the eye bank staff in terms of software implementation, training, documentation, and on-boarding.
The second portion of the presentation will be focused on the HIPAA rule and how to distinguish between data which may be considered “confidential” or “sensitive” vs. data that is covered under the HIPAA Rule. Speakers will also present methods to ensure that eye bank staff are creating and sending HIPAA Compliant emails.
