Event Description

Join PEAK Grantmaking for this special session developed for our Southern California Regional Chapter members. Participants will get an introduction to the PEAK Grantmaking Professional Competency Model and have the opportunity to build their knowledge in the specific competency areas of Communications and Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion. Ample networking time and time to connect with and learn from peers is included in this day-long event. Lunch will be provided.

AGENDA:
10:00am – 11 :00am: Welcome, PEAK Grantmaking Updates, & Overview of the Competency Model

11:00am – 12:15pm: Collecting and Using Demographic Data
Less than half of grantmakers collect demographic data, and there are many myths and barriers that prevent this data collection. This session will help both grantmakers and nonprofits understand the importance of demographic data in assessing outcomes. Explore:

  • The four questions all grantmakers should ask in collaboration with grantseekers and grantees: what data should be collected; how should it be collected; how should it be interpreted; and how should it be used in their work?
  • The myths and barriers that keep grantmakers and nonprofits from collecting and acting on this information
  • How to “make the case” at your own organization for improving or implementing demographic data collection

12:15pm – 1:00pm: Lunch and Networking

1:00pm – 2:30pm: Tips for Effective Communication
Use these practical tips to improve your skills in developing meeting agendas, facilitating team meetings, presenting to the board, or training grantee partners. We’ll complete an interactive exercise that will work the concepts and get everyone talking.

2:30pm – 3:00pm:  Closing
