How to Pair Spring Bulbs with Perennials for a Long-Lasting Show

By March, your spring bulbs are either in full bloom or starting to peek up out of the soil. Bulbs, by themselves, are such a welcome sight that it's easy to miss out on your chance for a truly spectacular spring display by pairing them with perennials and small shrubs.
See which perennials emerge later, letting bulbs truly shine, and which perennials will grow up and hide bulb foliage as it withers after bloom. Just like wine with a meal, though, some pairings work better than others. Learn which perennials complement spring, summer and fall bulbs by providing color, texture and camouflage. Get tips for adding shrubs to your bulb mix, as well, to provide long-term, four-season structure and interest in your garden.
