Construction:  2021 Global Construction Disputes Report – How COVID-19 Has Impacted Projects

Description - The COVID-19 pandemic is an ongoing event affecting construction projects across the globe.  This webinar focuses on the impacts of the pandemic on the construction industry in 2020 and then considers how these factors will affect the industry in 2021 and beyond.    The webinar will also provide participants with tangible actions they can take to mitigate disputes on their projects that are affected by Covid 19.

Speakers: Roy Cooper  and Greg Holness

Greg Holness has more than 25 years of  experience in construction and construction disputes. His previous work at a department of transportation, a large design-build curtainwall subcontractor, and several law firms, has given him multiple perspectives to draw upon when developing a successful strategy for resolving disagreements. As a professional engineer and an attorney, he has developed, analyzed and resolved claims related to schedule delay/acceleration/disruption, loss of productivity, and contract/specification interpretation on public and private projects, ranging from small but difficult to resolve matters to enormous multi-party litigation requiring days of dispute resolution to settle. In addition, Mr. Holness has drafted and negotiated hundreds of construction/design contracts in his career, so he is intimately knowledgeable on the key terms that often are central to disputes.

Mr. Holness’ experience includes years of creating, managing & analyzing schedules; maintaining budgets; overseeing the design, procurement and installation processes; interacting with insurance companies and sureties; handling a portfolio of construction litigations; and advising corporate officers on diverse topics. He has been in the trenches, in board rooms and everywhere in between so he knows how a well-run project is executed, and how a good project can quickly turn bad.

Roy Cooper is a senior vice president and leader of Arcadis’ Contract Solutions group in North America where he is responsible for all of Arcadis’ claims related service offerings including providing expert testimony, claims analysis, schedule review services, constructability reviews, cost estimating and quantitative risk assessment. He has a Bachelor of Science in Civil Engineering from Michigan Technological University along with a Master of Business Administration from the University of Connecticut. He is a Professional Engineer registered in the states of Connecticut, Florida, Maryland, New Jersey, New York, Rhode Island and Texas. He has over 30 years of construction experience, including the analysis and review of complex construction claims from the beginning stages through trial support and expert testimony.

Mr. Cooper excels in the role of trusted advisor, bringing clarity to complex technical and financial issues. He has led large-scale claims evaluation assignments of almost every type, including the evaluation of schedule impacts, cost impact analysis, mediation, and claims negotiation, and has been qualified as an expert on both horizontal and vertical type projects
