Municipal Governance Webinar

August 13 @ 1:00 pm - 2:00 pm

When the Elected Official is the Problem

Often we find ourselves scratching our heads at what some of our elected or appointed government officials say whether it’s on social media or in a public meeting. In those moments, what is left on the record are damaging at best and horrific at worst. It falls upon the local government attorneys to protect the client despite these damaging statements. This webinar’s goal is to provide practical recommendations on what to do when you face this situation.

Speaker: Chris Balch

Chris Balch has been called the go-to crisis response lawyer for cities and counties in Georgia as well serves as the City Attorney in Brookhaven, the 11th largest city in Georgia in the heart of the Metro Atlanta area. He has assisted clients to determine an appropriate course of action for out-of-control elected officials, employees whose conduct and misconduct ends up on national news feeds, and employees and supervisors who create a hostile work environment or undertake retaliatory acts. A Marine Corps veteran, Chris speaks nationally on issues of governance and the intersection between the 1st Amendment and elected officials use of social media. He is uniquely qualified to assist local governments and their lawyers in navigating the challenges presented by the distrust of all levels of government.
