Transactions Webinar-Commission Agreements for Public Art Projects
This presentation will discuss a standard commission agreement for public art with a special focus on those areas that are unique to public art. The purpose of this session will be to not only dissect the contract language, but to also discuss Best Practices in the field of public art with regard to issues like selection of artists, ownership of intellectual property, and post-installation issues such as maintenance, conservation, and removal.
Speaker: Sarah Conley Odenkirk
Sarah Conley Odenkirk is a partner in CDAS’s Entertainment group with a core practice in fine art. She is based in the firm’s Beverly Hills office where she spearheads the firm’s art law practice and advises clients on matters pertaining to intellectual property, business transactions, navigating the art market, public policy, and strategic planning.
Sarah provides advice to artists, collectors, dealers, and art institutions in art world negotiations and transactions. She works with creative entrepreneurs to guide them in business development, sustainable growth, and the protection of intellectual property assets. Sarah also works with municipalities to craft ordinances, policies, and procedures pertaining to public art in both public and private development.
From 2013-2017 Sarah was the Associate Director of the Art Business and Arts Management Masters Degree Programs at Claremont Graduate University, where she was instrumental in developing the curriculum; organized conferences on art law and community engagement; and was the Professor for Legal Foundations, Public Art, International Transactions, and Cultural Property and Restitution.
