Golf at the Samoset Resort
Celebrating over one hundred years of premier Maine golf, the Samoset Golf Course continues to inspire players of all skill levels with its breathtaking ocean vistas and one of the most challenging finishing holes in New England. Meandering along Rockport’s scenic coastline and through the woods, the Samoset’s 18-hole championship golf course boasts seven oceanside holes and 14 holes with spectacular views of the Atlantic.
The Samoset's signature hole, the par-five 4th, plays alongside Penobscot Bay. The hole boasts an impressive stone seawall that encompasses the contoured green with added bunkers and elevation. The 185-yard par-three 5th hole (formerly a par-four), features a demanding uphill slope and a tee box located directly above the seawall on Penobscot Bay, playing to a heavily bunkered bank and front sloping green. And with our 520 yard, par-five 18th hole, it’s easy to see why the Samoset is ranked as among the best golf destinations in New England, and was recently named one of the “Top 10 Northern U.S. Golf Resorts” by Condé Nast Traveler's Reader’s Poll.
Take a tour of our award-winning Maine Golf Course
The Samoset’s Maine golf complex also features a clubhouse with a golf range, practice green, short game facility with bunkers, fully-stocked Pro Shop and the Clubhouse Grille restaurant as well as private and group instruction with PGA professionals at the Samoset Scoring Schools.

The History of the Samoset Golf Course
Originally designed as a nine-hole course in 1902, Samoset Resort Golf Course celebrated its centennial year in 2002 and was also a qualifying event on the former Nike Tour. In 1974, the course was rebuilt as an 18-hole course by notable architect Robert Elder. In the early 1990s, Jeffrey Cornish improved many of the holes including 10, 11 and 18. In 2000, Bradley Booth was instrumental in redesigning and rebuilding holes 4, 5, 14, 18 as well as the introduction of the practice area. These recent improvements have strengthened the Samoset’s reputation as the home of New England’s premier championship course.
