This workshop will inform attendees about legal issues facing sheriffs during the mortgage foreclosure process from service, sale, and redemption legal experts.

Mortgage foreclosure fraud is rampant! Now, even county title examiners are requesting cases to be investigated.  Hear from experienced white-collar crime investigators about what is happening around the state. The Minnesota Department of Commerce and the FBI investigators will share their expertise, including what sort of conduct and what documents to look for, alerting your office that you may be dealing with someone who is engaged in illegal conduct.

A legislative group has been established to draft legislation that will assist you when dealing with overage and redemption issues.  This group of county attorneys, private attorneys, and sheriffs’ personnel will push for legislative changes to help you with these difficult problems.  Legislative changes that are on the horizon will be discussed.

Two county attorneys who have had to advise their sheriffs on legal issues faced in the foreclosure area will also speak.  During the past year, both county attorneys have had to address MANY issues regarding overages and redemptions.  Find out more about the issues confronting the sheriffs and the expert legal advice on how to proceed.
