Event Description Mona Villapiano, Psy.D., instructor
Clients with eating disorders present the clinician with many challenges. What practical information does the clinician need to know in order to safely, effectively and efficiently work with clients with eating disorders? What questions, beyond those in standard diagnostic protocols, must a clinician ask to adequately and comprehensively diagnose and assess an eating disorder? What goes into a comprehensive treatment plan? What treatments are most effective for children, adolescents, adults and families? These and other questions will be answered during this program. Participants will learn the unique questions to ask to safely and effectively diagnose and assess clients with eating disorders. They will learn how to develop comprehensive treatment plans utilizing Stages of Change, CBT, DBT, Psychodynamic Psychotherapy, Expressive Therapies, and Maudsley Method techniques to effect change in children, adolescents, adults and families with eating disorders.
Upon completion, participants will be able to:
- List diagnostic questions unique to the assessment of clients with eating disorders
- Utilize Stages of Change Theory to determine the stage of change the client is in regarding each symptomatic behavior and note the most effective treatment approach based on that stage of change
- Develop treatment plans using principles of CBT, DBT, psychodynamic, expressive and Maudsley Method therapies
