The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, Division of Cancer Prevention and Control has developed and distributed computer programs for use by cancer registries since 1996. EDITS is a set of publicly available, free-of-charge software tools that can be used to improve data quality by standardizing the way data items are checked for validity. EditWriter 4 is used to define data items, create record layouts, and generate data quality edits and metafiles, and GenEDITS Plus is used to apply data quality edits to data files using metafiles and to generate error reports for error resolution.
