As the president of the National Association of Health Services Executives (NAHSE), I’d like to welcome you to our website.

We recently celebrated our 45th anniversary and draw tremendous pride and satisfaction from the fact that NAHSE has been an impactful change agent in the healthcare industry for nearly half a century! But along with taking stock of 45 years of hard-won progress and achievement, this epoch in NAHSE’s history represents an ideal time for us to size up some of the momentous challenges ahead.

Among other things, it’s incumbent upon NAHSE to help facilitate the full implementation of the Affordable Care Act (ACA). Our innovative and facile members will need to bump things up a notch to provide more Americans with affordable coverage, access to care and robust consumer rights and protections. While pushing to make ACA an integral part of this country’s social and legal fabric, it’s also imperative that we at NAHSE embrace our core mission with renewed vigor and enthusiasm. Because rest assured -- the issues and concerns that spurred NAHSE’s august founders to create our organization are as relevant today as they were 45 years ago.

My overarching goal is to ensure that we continue to broaden, cultivate and sustain the pipeline for Black healthcare executives. I will do everything in my power to further enhance NAHSE’s reputation as the premier entity for identifying and recruiting quality talent in health care management, because our need to identify and nurture the next generation of Black healthcare executives remains a compelling one. Likewise, NAHSE needs to stay committed to providing unparalleled service and value to our members and to the healthcare profession in general. Doing so will facilitate our organization’s quest to improve the quality of healthcare services rendered to minority and underserved communities.

NAHSE’s members represent many of the healthcare industry’s most esteemed thought leaders and are playing key roles in shaping the ongoing design and direction of the nation’s healthcare system. Through our national and local collaborations, we will continue to provide a unified voice when it comes to advancing unassailable business rationales for achieving diversity within healthcare’s executive ranks and at the board table. We will continue to build on NAHSE successes such as the Annual Educational Conference and Exhibition, the Everett V. Fox Student Case Competition, the Young Professionals Forum, The Mid-Careerist Empowerment Forum and the CEO/Senior Executive Conference.

In closing, since you’re already at our website I hope you’ll take a few moments to take a look around. NAHSE’s online home is brimming with information and resources for furthering your career, as well as for enhancing the quality and inclusiveness of healthcare delivery in the communities you serve.

Thanks for dropping by. And don’t be a stranger!

Sincerely,

Roy L. Hawkins Jr., FACHE
