Event Description

The 2014 NASPA Small Colleges and Universities Institute is designed for students affairs leaders at institutions with enrollments of fewer than 5,000 students.  Participation is limited to the campus chief student affairs officer (CSAO) and other senior-level professionals who report to the CSAO and have substantial divisional leadership responsibilities.

The Institute registration fee includes all Institute sessions and materials AND: 

  • Lodging for the evenings of June 21-23, 2014 in an on-campus, apartment-style suite with a private bedroom and shared bathroom.
  • All meals beginning with dinner on June 21st and ending with breakfast on June 24th. 

OPTIONAL, pre-Institute offerings include:

    Pre-Institute Session: Fundraising and Friendraising
    : Student Affairs at the Intersection of Advancement Work: Student Affairs professionals, particularly those at small colleges where strong relationships are developed with student, are at a strategic advantage in relation to institutional fundraising. This session, presented by Ellen Heffernan, Partner at SJG - The Spelman & Johnson Group, will cover fundraising basics - annual fund, major gifts, campaign, bequests, etcl, with a focus on tuning your division and staff into identifying, shepherding, and managing potential gifts; and how, as the chief student affairs officer, you can partner with advancement to devleop a fundraising agenda. This session is complimentary to all attendees, however, registration is required.

    Registration fee:  $5.00
    Pre-Institute Golf Outing
    :  Join us for this optional Institute tradition!  Your $5.00 registration fee holds your spot and covers registration from Daemen College to the Grover Cleveland Golf Course.  Participants will be responsible for their own greens fees ($24.00), cart rental ($25.00), and clubs rentals ($11.00) at the golf course.  All prices listed are 2013 rates and are subject to change.  Space is limited. 
  • June 21, 2014:  10:00 am-2:30 pm
    Registration fee:  $69.00
    Tour of the Darwin Martin House and Lunch at Pearl Street Grill & Brewery
    :  Join other Institute participants for a tour of the Frank Lloyd Wright-designed American masterpiece, the Darwin Martin House complex (www.darwinmartinhouse.org).  The Martin House exemplifies Wright's Prairie house ideal and ranks as one of Wright's most finest residential works.  Your docent will demonstrate Wright's genius in creating intricate harmonies and will narrate the remarkable story of the great architect and his most loyal patron, Darwin D. Martin. (This optional tour is not handicapped accessible.)  Following the 90-minute tour, we will stop for lunch at the historically restored and funky Pearl Street Grill & Brewery in downtown Buffalo.  Space is limited.
  • June 21, 2014:  12:00 pm-2:30 pm
    Registration fee:  $5.00
    Pre-Institute Stroll through Williamsville, New York
    :  Join other Institute participants for lunch and a casual stroll through scenic Village of Williamsville (www.willvill.com).  Your $5.00 registration fee holds your spot and covers round trip transportation from Daemen College.  Participants will be responsible for their own lunch.  Space be limited. 
  • Early Arrival Lodging - Evening of June 20th
    Additional fee:  $39.00
    Many participants will choose to arrive early on Friday, June 20th in order to participate in the optional pre-Institute offerings of June 21st.  An extra night of lodging in an on-campus, apartment-style suite with a private bedroom and shared bathroom is available for $39.00.
