Objective:

To develop a clear understanding of and use for harm reductive techniques with high risk adults and adolescents having substance use disorders.

 

Participants will be able to:

1. Understand the progressive nature of substance use disorders from use to abuse (i.e., poor psychosocial judgment) to active addiction (i.e., either a physical and/or psychologic dependency).
2. Develop of a comprehensive understanding of the interactive effect between specific substances and aggression and violence.
3. Understand the ways harm reduction methods synthesize critical aspects of other methods (e.g., disease-and-recovery; motivational interviewing; and, cognitive-behavioral methods) in use for adolescents.
4. Understand the practical uses of harm reduction methods and be able to apply these methods to reduce the risk of lapse and relapse among adolescent substance abusers.
5. Understand the applicability of several harm reductive techniques.
6. Utilize core NASW and NAADAC ethical principles to guide harm reductive interventions.

If cancelation occurs less than 10 days prior to the event, no refund will be issued but you may request a credit towards a future training to be used within 1 year of the cancelation date.
