Morning Session: Addressing ethical dilemmas and discrimination: HIV/AIDS as a case study Speaker: Traci Reno, MSW, LCSW, CSAC Abstract: Working across diverse fields of practice, social workers often must address clinical concerns including end of life issues, medication adherence, and equal access to prevention and treatment options, as well as the very real and growing issues of homelessness, substance use and abuse, individual and societal discrimination. Practitioners are met with difficult decisions, which can raise questions or interventions that can create ethical dilemmas at the individual, organizational, or systemic level. Using HIV/AIDS as a case study, this workshop will help participants identify and understand on their own the connection to ethical dilemmas at the micro and macro levels of practice. Participants will have the opportunity to explore our individual and institutional attitudes and bias, and how to use the five guiding principles to be more mindful in ethical decision making. Come prepared to work in small and large groups and to share resources. Learning objectives:

Technology continues to captivate the industry and change the face of care delivery, across health or behavioral health care. While the principles of ethical practice have remained constant, a new rash of influences and trends impact how the professional workforce interprets them.
An endless round of HIPAA rules have professionals fixated on ePHI privacy and confidentiality. Quality, client safety, and fraud are front and center, with new risks related to medical identity theft. Duty to Warn, conflicts of interest, and dual relationships prompt confusion amid social media popularity. Telehealth mandates licensure and reimbursement reform to allow for interstate practice. What’s a social worker to do when regulations don’t sync with practice reality?
Connecting real-world case scenarios to established professional resources, as the new Standards for Technology and Social Work Practice and the NASW Code of Ethics, this presenter will provide unique strategies to master the current challenges. Engage in an entertaining, empowering and educational experience.

Check-In begins at 8:00 am. Please arrive no later than 8:15 am to sign in. The training begins at 8:30 am and ends at 4:15 pm.

If a registrant cancels more than 10 days before the event, a refund will be issued by check or credit back to your credit card, minus a 10% administrative fee.
If cancelation occurs less than 10 days prior to the event, no refund will be issued but you may request a credit towards a future training to be used within 1 year of the cancelation date. Call the Chapter Office (804-204-1339) to cancel within 10 days of the training. A request for credit may be granted at the discretion of the Executive Director in case of a documented emergency.
