Event Description

Understanding Type and Temperament Theory: An Introductory Workshop

This workshop will be an introduction to both the Myers-Briggs Type Indicator as well as the Keirsey Temperament Sorter. These highly useful instruments are complementary systems which can have effective therapeutic impact.

The clinical application of these systems can enhance a client’s self- knowledge, communication skills and relationship skills. For clinicians, these instruments can also provide a deeper self-knowledge, thereby enhancing the clinician’s use of self in their clinical work. The workshop also promotes social work values of honoring the dignity of the individual, and celebrating both the diversity and unity of the human family.

The format of the training will will include both didactic and experiential components, for a total of 3 hours.

Learning Objectives:

  1. The participant will learn an overview and basic theoretical underpinnings of MBTI and the Keirsey Temperament Sorter.
  2. The participant will learn the applicability of both MBTI and Keirsey TS in a variety of clinical situations, such as individual, couple and parent-child therapy.
  3. The participant will learn the applicability of MBTI and Keirsey TS to promote deeper self-knowledge and use of self in the therapeutic relationship.
