New Business Manager Institute Feeling a bit overwhelmed as you consider the many duties and responsibilities of your position? Consider participating in the year-long New Business Managers Institute designed to guide you through the maze of school business management. A new class starts each year at the annual summer conference in July. Institute participants will attend the following meetings and conferences as part of the curriculum: July - Pre-conference at annual conference July - Annual OSSOA Conference July - Annual Summer Conference November - Fall Workshop January - Budget and Finance meeting Spring - Zone meeting (for your specific zone) In addition, participants will be matched with a mentor – someone who has worked in school business management for years and has experienced the ups and downs and stresses of the job. Your mentor will be there throughout the year helping you by answering questions, listening and giving advice. Through face-to-face meetings, email or phone you and your mentor are encouraged to stay in contact to share in successes and solve problems. Mentors are committed to helping you succeed! The curriculum includes everything from basic budgeting to public relations to understanding the public employee retirement system. Attendance at classes, workshops and meetings also helps you earn credits toward becoming certified through OASBO’s Professional Certification program.
