Committees Leadership

A list of our committees is presented below:
  • Advocacy Committee
    Responsible for promoting and developing the profession's agenda through legislative affairs. This committee works with other OPRA members to assist their elected and appointed officials in consideration and review of pending and current legislation related to park and recreation issues. The OPRA believes responsible and well-informed legislators will consider the needs of Ohio's citizens, natural resources and the environment on current and pending legislation. The OPRA pledges that its members will be pro-active in alerting elected officials of possible effects and impacts of pending legislation and will serve as an information resource to Ohio's legislators.
  • Aquatics Section Committee
    For those interested in the operation of indoor/outdoor pools, splash or spraygrounds, waterparks, beaches, lakes and ponds.
  • Awards of Excellence Committee
  • Board of Directors
    Members of the Board of Directors are elected by and serve as representatives of the general membership by creating policy necessary to guide the OPRA and its Membership. Responsibilities include: Envision the future of the organization through knowledge and active pursuit of its mission; Provide direction and secure resources for the organization by setting and achieving goals according to its strategic plan; Monitors the organization's resources, its goals and direction, and ensure progress is being made toward its vision; Ensures fiscal stewardship and efficient use of resources that maximize the organization's return on investments.
  • Education Committee
    Oversees programs seeking to develop the skills and practices of OPRA members. This committee centers its efforts in three areas: educational seminars, the OPRA Annual Conference and programs promoting the industry's best practices. The Education Committee is also responsible for overseeing activities and programs among each of the professional sections: Administration Section; Aquatics Section; Citizen Board Member; Grounds, Outdoor Facilities and Natural Resource Management Section; Indoor Facilities and Maintenance Section; Law Enforcement Section; Marketing Section; Parks Section; Programming Section; and Students.   • Finance Committee
    The Finance Committee is the group of interested OPRA members who are involved in the details of the budget and financial operations of the OPRA. Those with an interest or background in budgeting and any additional experience with audits, risk management, internal controls and/or investments are welcomed! Members of the Finance Committee also review the draft OPRA operating budget and make recommendations on income/expenses and investements to the Board of Directors.
  • Golf Committee
    In charge of planning the Annual OPRA Golf Outing in support of the OPRA Foundation.
  • Law Enforcement Section Committee
    Park Rangers and other law enforcement personnel employed in a park or recreation setting.
  • Marketing Section Committee
    For all those with any responsibility for marketing, communications, events, programs or facilities. Open to all levels of responsibility and titles.
  • Membership Committee
    The role of the Membership Committee is to market the OPRA's membership program, educational conferences, seminars, and annual conference. The committee provides oversight of membership activities, pricing, and programs and oversees activites in the four regions. Region Chairs and the Communications Coordinator are a part of the Membership Committee.
  • OPRA Foundation
    The OPRA Foundation, the fundraising ally of the Ohio Parks and Recreation Association (OPRA), undertakes research, educates critical audiences, and collaborates with allied partners to further the cause of public parks and recreation.
  • Organizational Development Committee
    The role of the Organizational Development Committee is to develop a slate of candidates for the election of the OPRA Board of Directors through full implemenation of the OPRA Succession Plan, updating leadership position descriptions, implementing OPRA'S GET INVOLVED campaign and OPRA leadership training programs. Two members of the Board of Directors serve as co-chairs on the Organizational Development Committee with the remaining committee members drawn from the general membership. Appointed members must balance the wide range of interests of the organization as well as the state's geographic regions.
  • Park District Section Committee
    For personnel interested in park operations such as park districts as opposed to recreation operations. In Ohio, parks established under ORC 1545, ORC 755 or ORC 511 may find this section beneficial.
  • Partnership Development Committee
    The role of the Partnership Development Committee is to coordinate and develop the OPRA Foundation, the fundraising ally of OPRA. Funds raised are used to undertake research, educate critical audiences and collaborate with allied partners to further the cause of public parks and recreation.
