Title IX is a federal law that prohibits discrimination based on sex in educational programs that receive federal funding. It protects individuals of all genders and sexual orientations.  Title IX protects people from discrimination based on sex in education programs or activities that receive federal financial assistance.

Title IX regulations mandate how elementary, secondary, and post-secondary institution must respond to allegations of sex discrimination in educational programs and activities that receive federal financial assistance.
