Event Description

Highway from the Comfort Zone
Treading the Scary Stuff outside the Zone for a More Fulfilling Personal and Professional Life

July 31 @ 12:00 pm

The SNAP-Ed audience is very diverse and from a variety of cultures.  As educators within SNAP-Ed, we must be able to reach out to the diverse community in order to provide effective communication, which in turn will promote healthy behavior change for the client.
To do so requires a willingness to step out of our “comfort zone” to understand the day to day realities of living in poverty and with food insecurity.   Many younger professionals, and some experienced professionals, find it difficult to reach out to the diverse and economically challenged community as they may not be comfortable in asking the uncomfortable questions.
Also reworded the objectives as follows:
  • Define Comfort Zone and learn how to step outside of it
  • Identify what is really “secure” in your life and understand that others sense of security may be vastly different than your own
  • Know all the zones around a comfort zone and how to use or avoid  them in order to better assist clients
  • Understand the benefits of stepping out of your comfort zone and how these techniques can lead to behavior change for your clients
