Event Description

Innovative Approaches to School Nutrition Education‚Äč

School based nutrition education is an important component of the educational experience. In addition, nutrition education should expand outside of the classroom and needs to involve multiple areas of communication to promote lifelong, healthful eating habits.

Heather has the unique perspective of working with students and House Parents at private boarding school in Pennsylvania, as well as student family "sponsors". She educates students, house parents and low income families on food budgets, meal planning, and healthy cooking techniques to improve the wellbeing of elementary and middle school age children. This exciting webinar will be in interview format where you will have the ability to ask Heather about her career as a school based registered dietitian and her successful techniques
working with children and adults.

Learning Objectives:

  • Recognize multiple techniques for educating elementary and middle school age children about nutrition for overall good health and reducing health risks
  • Identify ways to discuss family food budgets, meal planning, and cooking skills with both adults and children
  • Collect valuable information by interacting with the host to have your specific questions answered about childhood nutrition and the role of a registered dietitian at schools
