Solo Small Firm Section: Planning to Avoid Probate in Estate Plans & Discussion about Marketing Your Practice
Planning to avoid probate is often a good idea, but not always. Many estate plans focus on how best to avoid probate and often overlook the drawbacks of tools used to do so, especially when doing estate planning without an attorney. This presentation will explore the common ways probate is avoided in estate plans, including transfer on death deeds, joint tenancy, pay-on-death and transfer-on-death accounts, beneficiary designations and revocable living trusts, including advantages and disadvantages of each method.
