Trusts & Estates Section: Pending Legislation to Revise the Power of Attorney Statute (live teleconference available)*

Hear from the coordinator of the Vulnerable Adult Project about the bill being considered, the history and purposes of the project, and the competing policy considerations resulting in the bill before the House and Senate. Whether or not the legislature has decided by May 9th, the CLE will provide an opportunity to hear more about the debate and the impact on Minnesota. More detailed description below.

Iris C. Freeman, MSW, Adjunct Profesor of Law and Associate Director of the Center for Elder Justice and Policy at William Mitchell College of Law, is coming on May 9, 2013 to the monthly luncheon of the RCBA Trusts and Estates Section. Ms. Freeman is the Coordinator of the Vulnerable Adult Justice Project which brought the bill being considered. Her recent and current research focuses on effective interventions in financial exploitation. She will talk about the history and purposes of the Vulnerable Adult Justice Project and discuss the competing policy considerations that resulted in the bill now being considered by the House and Senate. The legislature may reach a final decision on the bill before May 9. Whether or not that milestone occurs, we will have an opportunity to hear an assessment of actions taken to date and their potential impact in Minnesota.
