Event Description

This hands-on course focuses on the location, selection, and effective use of statistics relevant to health on the local, state, national, and international levels. The importance and relevance of health statistics in various contexts will be discussed. Participants will have the opportunity to become familiar with the features and scope of several statistics Internet resources through the use of numerous exercises. This course has been approved for 3 hours of Medical Library Association Continuing Education Units.

 

Presenter: Sheila Snow-Croft, MLIS
Sheila Snow-Croft is the Public Health Coordinator at the Southeastern/Atlantic Region of the National Network of Libraries of Medicine, located at  the University of Maryland in Baltimore.  She provides education and training, exhibitions, and manages grant contracts for the NN/LM’s 13 state SEA region.  She teaches classes online and in person, with a focus on public health information, and has been with the N/LM SEA since 2004.   Previously, Sheila was a reference librarian for Lister Hill Library of the Health Sciences at the University of Alabama, Birmingham, and earned her MLIS and an MA in English from the University of Alabama.
