Feb 06, 2014 02:00pm -
Feb 06, 2014 04:00pm

Event Description

This two hour online program will provide an overview of RDA and the RDA development and implementation processes and a review of what catalogers will need to know in order to get ready for RDA implementation.

RDA (Resource Description and Access) is being developed to replace AACR2 as the standard cataloging rule system in the English-speaking countries. What will catalogers need to know in order to move from AACR2 to RDA? In this two-hour program we will cover the development, focus, and current status of RDA and will highlight the major changes which RDA brings to the AACR2 cataloging rules and to the MARC format. Implementation issues, RDA tools, and additional RDA-related cataloging work will also be discussed.

Attendees will learn about:

  • The environment for RDA development and the issues which have shaped RDA development
  • Current status of RDA and its implementation
  • Tools for RDA
  • Major differences between AACR2 and RDA
  • MARC changes to support RDA
  • Implementation issues

This class will be held in the Lyrasis Adobe Connect meeting room. Log-in information will be emailed approximately one week before the course.
