Keynote by Dr. Nicol Turner Lee: How libraries can work to close the digital skills gap

Dr. Nicol Turner Lee is a senior fellow and the director of the Center for Technology Innovation at the Brookings Institution. Her work focuses on a host of regulatory and legislative public policies in technology, including broadband infrastructure, the digital divide, online privacy, antitrust, among other topics. She also leads Brookings artificial intelligence work where she focuses on eradicating systemic biases in machine learning algorithms and other autonomous systems. Dr. Turner Lee has a forthcoming book titled, Digitally Invisible: How the internet is creating the new underclass (Brookings Press, 2022). She is also the Vice Chair of the Federal Communications Commission's Communications Equity and Diversity Council that was recently chartered by the agency's new Chairwoman. She is a sought out speaker on the intersection between technology, race, and social justice. Dr. Turner Lee has a Ph.D. and M.A. in Sociology from Northwestern University, and a B.A. magna cum laude from Colgate University.
