An Introduction To Feminist Librarianship
10/18/2018 2-3pm
This session will serve as an introduction to feminism(s) and will provide examples of how feminism(s) can be enacted in the library profession (public, academic, and special). We will cover multiple aspects of librarianship such as cataloging, reference services, and information literacy and how implementing intersectional and anti-oppressive practices in these areas can improve the library experience for all users, especially those from marginalized communities.
Additionally, we will look at the history of feminism in librarianship and discuss what the feminist future of librarianship might look like, paying particular attention to the ways that librarians with privilege can make space for people of color and people of marginalized identities within this profession.
