At the Innisfil ideaLAB & Library we have adopted a cross-functional environment that has allowed us to leverage the power of our team. Working under the auspices of the Manager of Programming & Outreach and the Manager of IT Services, the Creative Making and Discovery team has worked closely
with the Children’s Programming team to provide Maker and STEAM programming to the community. This has allowed training and skill development opportunities for staff beyond what would have been possible had they not worked across departments, as well as making our programming and community outreach efforts more robust and innovative.
Key outcomes:
• Help people implement workable, cross-functional partnerships within their own Libraries & in municipal environments
• Provide talking points from various perspectives to best communicate the value of these types of partnerships to team members, partners, and upper management
• Offer ideas for how to use aspects of this style of work in workplaces that are structured differently than the Innisfil ideaLAB & Library (i.e. unionized, external I.T. services, etc.)
