Social Catalogs: Integrating Libraries & Communities (Live Online)

Event Description

In this two-hour class, students will take a tour of popular social catalogs such as LibraryThing, Bibliocommons, Shelfari and others! Students will see what these social catalogs have to offer and how they can be used in every day library work as in cataloging, reference along with being reader’s advisory and marketing tools.

Learning Outcomes

  • Be introduced to a number of social catalogs
  • Be able to incorporate these tools for reference and reader’s advisory work
  • Learn how these catalogs can assist in building an online catalog
  • Be able to evaluate how these catalogs can be implemented by libraries, librarians and patrons
