Regulatory Issues

Federal Regulatory Issues

The U.S. Congress creates laws and delegates authority for implementation of the laws to federal regulatory agencies.  The agencies then draft regulations for implementing the laws, and this process involves public comment period.  The AVMA monitors, reviews and responds to proposals made by federal regulatory agencies that impact the profession and the practice of veterinary medicine.

Vermont State Regulatory Issues

The VVMA, with help from our legislative advocates in Montpelier, monitors legislative issues impacting veterinary medicine in Vermont and works with the state agencies responsible for implementing the regulations when the laws are passed.

We also monitor potential changes to the profession by attending each meeting of the Vermont State Board of Veterinary Medicine.
