State Relations Task Force Monthly Meeting - Conference Call - July

Jul 25, 2017 12:00pm -
Jul 25, 2017 01:00pm

Event Description

Join your state relations peers for a conference call to hear from guest speakers about the state landscape in criminal justice reform, discuss upcoming events, share policy information, and learn about opportunities in the states and in Washington, D.C..

About the issue: America's prison population skyrocketed over the past few decades, largely as a result of state laws and policies that placed more offenders behind bars and kept them there longer. And state expenditures on corrections soared along with the growth. But states are beginning to reverse the growth, reducing their prison populations and containing costs, due to proven strategies available that offer a better public safety return on taxpayer dollars.

Join us for an overview of the issue, state policy trends, and a case study on how one state came to embrace data-driven, fiscally sound policies and practices that protect public safety, hold offenders accountable, and control corrections costs. (Hint: it didn’t happen overnight and state government relations were involved!)
