On Demand – How Ride-Sharing Companies are Impacting Public Transportation & Networking Event

Oct 27, 2014 04:00pm -
Oct 27, 2014 07:00pm

Event Description

According to Forbes the number of “zero car families” has been increasing steadily since 2007 while a survey by Zipcar reveals 72% of young Americans don’t care about owning a car.  The need for faster and more effective public transportation is as great as ever.  While many states and cities try to improve their infrastructure with diminishing budgets, the business community is jumping in to help and is taking a different route.  Thanks to the arrival of companies like Uber, Lyft, and ZipCar, the opportunities for public transportation are not only increasing but the term "public transportation" is also beginning to take on a new meaning.

As ride-sharing becomes more common, we’ll take a look at how these innovative transportation companies (or- wait - are they tech companies?) are defining themselves and, consequently, how they are navigating the challenges of operating in cities and states all over the country.  We’ll focus on the types of legislative and regulatory issues they are facing at all levels of government, best practices used to solve those issues, and how ride-sharing companies are impacting the traditional methods of getting from point A to point B.

The event will be a panel discussion by on demand ridesharing companies Lyft, Zipcar, Sidecar and will be moderated by the National Conference of State Legislatures

Speakers:

ZipCar - Scott Hall, General Manager, Mid-Atlantic Region
SideCar - Sam Tatevosyan, Sr Public Affairs Advisor, Holland & Knight
Lyft – Diana Dellamere, Public Policy Manager
NCSL – Doug Shinkle, Program Principal (moderator)
