Karen Kahrs, Governor

 

Ms. Kahrs is an Officer in the Supervision Group at the Federal Reserve Bank of New York. She currently serves as the Senior Supervisory Officer in charge of a team of examiners with responsibility for supervising a financial market infrastructure firm. Ms. Kahrs previously was the Enterprise Risk Officer overseeing a team of risk specialists on-site at a large complex institution focused on enterprise risk management practices and the identification of emerging risks. In her twenty plus years with the New York Reserve Bank, she has worked in various Supervision functions.  Her experiences include leading a team of liquidity risk specialists covering systemically important firms and an analytics and monitoring team in the Funding, Liquidity and Interest Rate Risk department post crisis. Karen played a key role as co-lead of governance and stress testing workstreams during the initial years of the horizontal  liquidity exercises. Earlier on in her career she was a senior team member in the Market Risk area focused on trading and private equity reviews. Ms. Kahrs also has foreign bank experience through her role as a Central Point of Contact for a foreign banking organization along with participation on foreign bank examinations at the start of her career.  

 

Ms. Kahrs holds a Bachelor of Arts degree in Psychology and Economics summa cum laude from Barnard College, Columbia University and a Masters of Business Administration degree with distinction in Finance, Accounting and International Business from New York University. She is a CFA charterholder and has earned the FRM and PRM designations.
