You have dedicated your career to providing exceptional psychiatric rehabilitation services for people in recovery. Through continued maintenance of your status as a Certified Psychiatric Rehabilitation Practitioner (CPRP), you are making a commitment to maintain and further develop your knowledge, skills and abilities to support recovery and to help individuals to be successful and satisfied in the living, working, learning and social environments of their choice. In your work as a CPRP, you have demonstrated how psychiatric rehabilitation positively changes the lives of individuals with serious mental illness to one of hope, self-determination, empowerment and recovery.

The CPRP signifies the current competence of the individual to practice psychiatric rehabilitation. Competence is maintained through ongoing training and education in psychiatric rehabilitation, and documented through the third-year renewal process. Renewal is required every three years by ALL certificants, regardless of previous experience or education.

Recertification requires completion of a minimum of 45 contact hours of training specific to psychiatric rehabilitation over the three-year period immediately preceding the certification expiration date. Recertification candidates may also recertify by re-testing. Contact the Certification Program for details.

Recertification is completed by reporting completion of required continuing education every third year using the Recertification Application and payment form or by successfully passing the certification examination. A minimum of 50% of the required hours must be earned through attendance at approved trainings, exclusive of any presentations, publications or other approved activities.

Beginning in 2012, recertification applicants will no longer be required to provide a listing of training activities but must attest to the following:  “I attest that I have completed a minimum of 45 hours of required training in psychiatric rehabilitation as specified in the 3rd year renewal application manual.”
