CMTE L Advanced Training in Music Therapy & Dementia

This session engages board-certified music therapists in advanced training in music therapy and dementia, specifically, cognitive stimulation (attention, memory, language, and reality orientation), social interaction and active engagement, behavioral problems (agitation, aggression), music-facilitated stress and anxiety management, and techniques to engage families in the music therapy process.

Learner Objectives:

1. To relate aspects of neurological affections in the different phases of a dementia with their implications for the music therapy treatment of the patient with dementia (IV.A.2).

2. To review the latest findings in mechanisms affecting different forms of dementia, treatment options, and potential avenues for cure (I.B.3,4,6).

3. To learn to assess biopsychosocial, spiritual, and music therapy needs, and define therapeutic objectives for people in the different phases of dementia (I.B).

4. To relate scientific results of music therapy with dementia with their clinical applications (I.D.2,4; II.A.2).
