Description

Patients with neurodegenerative disorders present a complex and varied set of concerns and challenges. Music therapy can be the glue that brings all of the pieces together to make significant differences in their lives. Review different neurodegenerative disorders, explore specific challenges for patients and their families/caregivers, look at assessments and goals, engage in symptom simulations, and try interventions to be successful in treatment.

Learning Objectives:

  1. Participants will be able to identify at least 2 aspects of 3 different types of neurodegenerative disorder (CBMT Domains: II.B.4.6.11)
  2. Participants will be able to identify at least 4 challenges for individuals with neurodegenerative disorders (CBMT Domains: II.C1.2.D.2.3)
  3. Participants will be able to identify at least 4 interventions for use with individuals with neurodegenerative disorders (CBMT Domains: III.A.1.a-g)

Schedule:

  • Hour 1:  10 minutes Housekeeping & Introductions
  • 40 minutes: Review of Neurodegenerative Conditions: hallmarks, aspects, and concerns
  • BREAK
  • Hour 2:  50 minutes: Review of Motor and Exploration of Interventions
  • BREAK
  • Hour 3:  50 minutes: Review of Speech/Communication and Exploration of Interventions
  • BREAK
  • Hour 4:  50 minutes: Review of Memory/Cognition and Exploration of Interventions
  • BREAK
  • Hour 5:  40 minutes: Review of Emotions/Quality of Life and Exploration of Interventions
  • 10 minutes: Housekeeping
