G. Music Therapy & Trauma: Preparedness, Response & Resilience

Description

This special training will credential attendees in psychological first aid and teach a variety of tools to utilize during disaster response. Attendees will learn how to apply trauma-informed principles and concepts to music therapy practice, and strategize resources to address vicarious trauma, compassion fatigue and burnout.

Objectives:

Describe the role of music therapy in the disaster management cycle and in the long term trajectory of community trauma. (I-B 1-3, 10-11)

Participants will demonstrate understanding of a framework for developing PFA and trauma-informed music therapy interventions for treatment of clinical and community needs. (I-D1, 3, 4, 9, 10; II A 1 a-h, 2 c, o, t, u, ao, 5j, z)

Participants will define principles and key components of trauma-informed care. (I B 1-4, C 2-4, D 2

Participants will demonstrate understanding of the importance of self-awareness, vicarious trauma, vicarious resilience and self-care as it relates to providing trauma-informed music therapy. (IV A 1, 2, 3, 4; IV B3
)

Schedule:

Intro to Course (10 minutes)

Part 1: Creative Arts Therapies for Healing Communities: Disaster Response Models in Action

Psychological First Aid Training (120 minutes)

BREAK (10 minutes)

Creating community and pooling resources (20 minutes)
Response examples of natural disaster
20 minutes didactic
20 minute experiential
Responses examples of Man-made disasters
20 minute didactic
20 minute experiential
10 minutes for questions and conclusions

Part 2: Trauma Informed Music Therapy: Trauma, Compassion Fatigue and Vicarious Resilience.
