Description

There are many key elements to successful practicum supervision. Gain tools for improving understanding of practicum students’ development as well as strategies for facing common challenges. Learn how to provide effective supervision and facilitate student learning didactic presentation, group discussion, and experientials. 

Objectives:

At the end of this course, participants will be able to...
identify the stage of learning or supervision of a potential supervisee and articulate how that potentially impacts supervisory choices. (IV.A.2., IV..B.11)
identify at least one new strategy for providing effective feedback and supervision. (IV.B.11.)
identify one potential area for professional growth as a supervisor. (IV.A.1.)

 III.   Providing effective supervision and facilitating student learning  (75 minutes)
      A.  Supervisor self-assessment and self-awareness
          B.  Considering learning styles
                              1.  Discussion of styles and how these impact learning and supervision
                              2.  Group/experiential work
            C.  Providing effective feedback
            D.  Facing challenges - Group work/scenarios/discussion
 
IV.   Ethical considerations in supervision  (20 minutes)
