Advancing Practices in Early Childhood MusicTherapy

Description

Delve into deeper practices in early childhood music therapy. Participants will be exposed to the techniques within the Music Together approaches that support and expand the growing body of early childhood music therapy practice.  Prerequisites: Previous completion of the Music Together Training Workshop. Limited to 50 participants, register early. No on-site registration.

Objectives:

  • Participants will learn strategies for identifying child’s music developmental level within the context of a music therapy setting (CBMT Domain I.B.3.d.)
  • Participants will learn strategies for creating a musically accessible therapy experience for children and their parents/adult caregivers (CBMT Domain I.D.8

Schedule:

Hour 1 (50 min):
Introduction of attendees; review description; review of Music Together four philosophical points with an eye to music therapy application including addressing child developmental concerns and parent-efficacy; experiential learning and song leading exercises.

Hour 2 (50 min):
Designing clinical interventions for a variety of clinical settings (inclusive of participant’s settings); designing a home component to support parents/adult caregivers’ continued comfort with implementing experiences of music to support the development of the child; clinical vignette videos.

Hour 3 (50 min):
Description of current programs utilizing Music Together offerings; business and next steps; review and evaluation.
