A. Level I Bonny Method of Guided Imagery & Music

Description

Introductory training in the Bonny Method taught as a 4-day, 41 CMTE intensive. (1 credit may be applied to CBMT's ethics requirement.)  This immersion in the Bonny Method offers experienced therapists an entryway into this method and provides participants with an experiential taste of the power of music as the facilitator of imagery and an agent of change.

Learner Objectives (With CBMT Board Certification Domains)
• Participants will demonstrate knowledge of fundamental concepts about The Bonny Method of Guided Imagery and Music (GIM), a music-centered form of psychotherapy (i.e., Definition, History and Philosophy) IIA-3-c-f: Recognize how the following theoretical orientations inform music therapy practice: c) holistic; d) humanistic/existential, e) humanistic, and f) psychodynamic; IIA-4-e: Recognize how the following music therapy treatment approaches and models inform clinical practice:
e) humanistic.
•Participants will articulate the functions, considerations, and contraindications regarding the function of GIM music programs in generating imagery
• I-D-13: Plan sessions of appropriate duration and frequency
• II-B-5: Recognize the client populations and health conditions for which music experiences are contraindicated and adapt treament as indicated
• Attendees will participate in an introductory experience in the roles of both traveler and facilitator during group GIM sessions.
• I-D-15: Structure and organize music therapy experiences within each session to create therapeutic contour (e.g., transitions, pacing, sequencing, energy level, intensity)
• II-A-1-b: Develop a therapeutic relationship by being fully present and authentic
